CANADA AND THEIR HOT CAKES

The second largest country in the word is Canada. The French and English influenced the cuisine in Canada. The British an the French were the secondary invaders of Canada. The French and British cuisine influenced what is now known as the Canadian cuisine. Canadian hot cakes were influenced by French's crepes and Britain's high tea. As the weather in Canada is cold they turned the crepes into a warm hearty meals. In our current era Quebec is the last place is Canada where they speak French and eat French cuisine. The significance of the maple tree is reflected in the Canadian flag and food. Canadians use maple syrup and other maple products due to it popularity. This was reflected in the Canadian hot cake recipe as a flavoursome topping.

Canadian hot cakes
Serve Two
Ingredients
½ cup self raising flour
½ tbs sugar
90ml milk
1 egg
1 tbs butter
¼ cup maple syrup
Method
Sift flour and sugar in a bowl.
In a separate bowl whisk the milk and egg. add to the dry ingredients and whisk until smooth.
Heat a nonstick fry pan over a medium heat and add a little butter to melt. Pour ¼ cup of mixture into the pan. When bubbles start to appear on the surface flip the hotcake and allow to golden. repeat this process until all of the mixture is used.
Stack on a plate and serve with maple syrup.

What was the role of the egg in this recipe? The egg was used to bind all the ingredients together and keep its hold.
Explain the sifting flour? Sifting the flour ensures there is no chunks of flour in the mixture and there is an even amount throughout.
Why do bubbles start to appear during the cooking process of pancakes? They appear because the air pushes through the top of the pancake.
What is the difference between pancakes, pikelets and crepes? The difference between pancakes and crepes is that crepes are thin but pancakes are not
